Free Gingival Grafts









FGG have gotten some bad press lately because of their "unaesthetic" appearance, however these grafts are both useful and necessary not for treating recession, but rather for mucogingival defects when inadequate attached gingiva is remaining, recession has been progressive and you want to stop this continued apical migration. I sometimes complete this as a precursor to CT grafting for root coverage at a later time or as a preprosthetic procedure when fullcoverage or class IV restorations are indicated. here is a sample case.
